Why did Chris change his name? Simply to change his identity? I think it was more. And why Alexandar Supertramp?
I believe your name defines who you are. It's crazy that we don't choose our names but it will dictate who we will be. Chris is not ordinary. I think he knew the emenisity that cxomes from a name. Chris Johnson McCandless would not suffice; it had to be changed. Alexandar means great ruler or conquer, super means great and tramp means drifter. Thus Ghris changed from being part iof a high class society to being a great conquerous drifter apart from anything that was not simple and beautiful.

i think he did change his name to conceal his identity. i think that if he went around as Chris McCandless than he would have been found and his journey into the wild would have come to a stop. and i dont think your name defines you, you define your name. Theres so many brittanys' and ashleys' but each ashley and brittany is different because the person is different. you choose how people see you and how you carry yourself. thats just my opinion!
I have to agree with Zaneta. I think you define your name and you are the only one who can make it your own. I do agree with what you both said about changing his name though. I think he did it so no one could find him and it was like he was starting fresh on a new adventure and in order to do that he had to start with a new identity. Betty your analysis was good about the reason he chose that name. I don't know if it's true or not but it does make perfect sense. How did you know what those words meant by the way because I had no idea !
