Why Did He Leave?

I would like to know what was the true reason that Chris left home. Was it just his parents? or was it a mix of everything? We know that he didn't exactly have the perfect life but I mean really? Is escaping "into the wild" the last resort? Or was that just his way of dealing with the challenges of his life ? I think that he just needed to find himself. What do you think?

I kinda think that it was just his way of coping with everything. I think that going a way was a way to escape all of the things that he was going through.

I think he left because he was..... bored. In a sense. He was raised in upper-middle class and he lived sort of a "planned out" life. That just my opinion though.

Check out my post," My superawesomeamazing Into The Wild post". But in short, i think he was somewhat selfish for leaving him family that way and also somewhat courageous for following through with what seemed to be his calling... But, I do have to put that maybe he had something wrong with him. He was kind of out there so maybe he had some mental problem.

i agree with you, i think that this was his way of dealing with everything he went through. i also feel he wanted some excitement in his life so he left.

I am thinking the same thing. It seems to me that he just didn't want to face life like everyone else in the world. Maybe he thought that if he was out in the wild he didn't have to work for a living or spend time getting an education to have a good life. Chris is very confusing, but to me it seems like he has to do more work to survive out in the wild than he did when he was at home. Like killing animals in order to get food and jumping on trains to travel from one city to another. I really think there was no point for him to go out into the wild.
